Google Consent Mode v2

Google Consent Mode v2, set by the banner your visitors answer.

Sadang sends Google tags a denied default before the visitor chooses, then an update with their choice. Here is exactly what it sends, and what we are still building.

Seven signals, three choices.

Sadang's banner asks for three things: analytics, personalisation and marketing. Six of Google's seven consent types follow one of them; security_storage is always granted. Choose an example on the right to see what Google tags receive.

The three advertising signals follow the single marketing choice: a visitor who allows marketing allows all three.

What Sadang sends, in order.

  1. A default, before any choice. gtag('consent', 'default', …) with ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization, functionality_storage and personalization_storage denied, and security_storage granted. It includes wait_for_update: 500 (configurable) and ads_data_redaction: true.
  2. Region defaults, if you set them. One extra default per region list, so a site can, for example, treat visitors from different countries differently.
  3. Data layer markers. IsConsentManagementPlatform: true and a consent_default_set event, so Tag Manager can tell a consent platform is present. If the data layer has no gtm.dom event yet, Sadang also adds one.
  4. An update, when the visitor chooses. gtag('consent', 'update', …) with each type granted or denied to match their choice. Reject all sends every type denied except security_storage.

Optional settings: url_passthrough (off unless you turn it on), ads_data_redaction (on unless you turn it off) and a Google developer_id.

Questions

Does Sadang support Google Consent Mode v2?
Yes. When Sadang's banner is shown, it sets the consent types to denied (security_storage granted) and sends an update when the visitor chooses. It is on by default whenever the Sadang banner is enabled. Some cases, such as returning visitors, are still in development; see the status table on this page.
Can I set different defaults by country?
Yes. A site can add region defaults, using ISO 3166-2 codes, which Sadang sends as extra default commands. Today they are set in the site configuration rather than in the dashboard.
Does Sadang support basic and advanced mode?
Sadang sends the signals; whether your Google tags wait for consent (basic) or load with denied defaults and send cookieless pings (advanced) is decided by how you set up those tags.
Is Sadang a Google CMP Partner?
Not yet. We are preparing to apply to Google's CMP Partner Program. This page will say when that changes.
